Artificial Intelligence: Heartless masterpieces
Doherty, Shauna J. "ART in the Age of Artificial Intelligence." Esse, vol. 97, 2019, pp. 30-41. ProQuest, https://www.proquest.com/scholarly-journals/art-age-artificial-intelligence/docview/2394546784/se-2.
In this article , Doherty proposes that the independence of AI is largely exaggerated in the art world and that art using the GAN technique has “not yet” reached the level of “empathic responsiveness” that human artists create. Doherty also argues that while AI’s creative tools can better help artists create art, “the aura of the artist's hand will continue to supersede the tools that he or she develops in practice”. Doherty’s take on AI art is very similar to mine and I believe her article will help further my argument over AI lacking the humanity it takes to create moving pieces.
He, Jin. "A Study on the Influence of Artificial Intelligence on Image Art Design." SHS Web of Conferences vol. 181, EDP Sciences, 2024. ProQuest, https://www.proquest.com/conference-papers-proceedings/study-on-influence-artificial-intelligence-image/docview/2916451209/se-2, doi:https://doi.org/10.1051/shsconf/202418104028.
This article suggests that artificial intelligence and its editing tools can be used as a partner to create art as opposed to a fellow contender. I will be using this article to aid me in clarifying that while I do not support art solely created by AI, I understand and agree that AI can be a helping hand.
Liu, Bai. "Arguments for the Rise of Artificial Intelligence Art: Does AI Art Have Creativity, Motivation, Self-awareness and Emotion?" Arte, Individuo y Sociedad, vol. 35, no. 3, 2023, pp. 811-822. ProQuest, https://www.proquest.com/scholarly-journals/arguments-rise-artificial-intelligence-art-does/docview/2889579370/se-2, doi:https://doi.org/10.5209/aris.83808.
This article explores the different systems AI uses to create art pieces while also encouraging artists to open their minds to the way AI systems use their intelligence to replicate emotions used for creativity. I will use this article to expand my view of how AI understands art while also arguing against the claim that computer intelligence is equivalent to human emotion.
